Meet The Managing Director of African Industries Mr. Alok Gupta

His in-depth understanding of the EPC process and the challenging environment in Nigeria drove the successful investments in other manufacturing projects of African Industries. From 2006, he led the group’s expansion into sodium silicate, Aluminum Sulphate and Sulphuric acid by building an integrated chemicals complex in Ogun State. Subsequently a glass plant was completed in 2009.

Given the group’s rapid growth and increase in manufacturing initiatives, Alok has setup a technical projects task force consisting of a team of highly experienced engineers to evaluate and implement on-going projects for African Industries. In addition to his management responsibilities, Alok also oversees several Greenfield projects and expansion in existing manufacturing plants. 

Alok’s most recent initiative is to grow the group’s power generation capacity from captive to a self-sustaining value proposition and increase profitability of the steel business through implementation of several high value processes. He is currently the Managing Director of African Industries.

Success Story of Mr Alok Gupta

Alok Gupta joined the Group in 1999 after completing a degree in Chemical Engineering from Cambridge University. Alok spent his initial years focusing on the trading side of the operations for the steel and chemical businesses. During his stint in trading operations Alok significantly increased procurement and supply chain efficiencies. He increased the trading portfolio to include products such as wood, hardboard, paper and packaging.

Alok today spearheads all the manufacturing efforts of African Industries. Given his technical expertise, he took responsibility for implementing the group’s manufacturing strategy. He coordinated the project teams that set up the group’s first steel plant in 2004. Alok’s hands-on experience has been key to driving the additional steel capacity investments in African Foundries and Abuja Steel Mills. Under Alok’s supervision, the group’s manufacturing capacity for steel has increased six fold in less than 10 years.
